Baldur's Gate 3

Baldur’s Gate 3 Game Review

At the moment, this project is rightfully considered to be one of the most ambitious from Larian Studios. In fact, the idea of reviving classic RPGs with maximum depth, as in the case of RPGs, is an interesting one. But to date, the overall picture seems raw.

Early access issues

There were some difficulties in the early access, but already there was a huge chunk of the content that the player will experience today.

But as far as issues go, there’s a lack of animation, there are broken items, and there are a number of general problems. And there’s always the possibility of deleting save files with major updates, and this discourages users from continuing with the game.

But in essence, there weren’t many gameplay bugs, much less anything that would interfere with gameplay. Of course, at this stage there are still questions about the visuals, but the manufacturer promises to fix it all.

Features

It’s worth starting here straight away with the fact that there are a lot more features for players, if you compare them to similar projects where the gamer is wearing a short leash. You could say it’s D&D. And there are plenty of opportunities to solve this or that situation.

At the beginning of the gameplay the user is introduced to a specific group of people who are trying to cope with another group. And depending on who the main character is in dialogue with, the options for advancement change.  That is, everything decides the player, and this is a major plus of this project.

Even in the early stages, it is clear that the game can become a promising RPG, if the developer will approach the further development. You have to rely on player feedback and understand where to focus your attention, and there is already experience with that.

What about D&D. More on that

There are some things here that are unfamiliar to the player. It’s skill checks and dice rolls, which is in the foreground. So there’s already a broader view of what the user will encounter. There are additional possibilities in the dialogue process, for example, to intimidate or trick the player and so on. This all influences the gameplay and adds an appropriate D&D feel to the project itself.

And the characters here are created almost accordingly. And while in other games you can change points and characteristics, this is different. Initially you need to define the basic states, choose a race and bonuses that will benefit the game. And after this to evolve.

Bottom line

Of course, the early access development is still far from perfect. There are problems with sound and visuals, not without simple bugs even at the beginning of the story. But after waiting for a few updates, we can expect that all these things will be solved, and then any gamer will look at Baldur’s Gate 3 in a different way.
